Join musician friends for a week of chamber music in a typical andalusian "white village" in the foothills of the Ronda mountains, not fram from Malaga. We will join old friends for a relaxing week of music and sampling the wines and cuisine of the south of Spain, during a season of festivities and Spanish warmth. This year the week will begin a few days later than previously and continue through the Spanish holiday of Reyes. Come meet local friends who live in Jimena and the surrounding area all year, and friends who visit for special occasions. In the past these have included Lucy Wilding, Marcello Defant, Simonetta Bolzon, Tony Shorrocks, Paolo Vergari and Michael Kevin Jones. We hope they will be persuaded to return for this, our 11th annual gathering.
Each day we play in small groups, which may include strings, winds, pianos, although string quartets predominate. Everyone joins a group of musical partners each morning, and we try to vary the groups every day. The remainder of the day free to spend as you like (sightseeing, more playing, hiking, biking, or just snoozing). Hikers, bikers, and tennis players have been known to enjoy themselves in past years. Playing rooms and music are available throughout the day for those who are really chamber music junkies.
We might make a trip to the Roman town of Bolonia (Baelo Claudia) to have a fish meal right on the beach and look at the digs. Jimena offers many interesting side trips before or after the music week: Ronda, Gibraltar, Jerez de la Frontera, Tangiers, Cordova, Granada and even beautiful Sevilla.
Very comfortable sleeping accommodations are in single or shared rooms, each with private bath. Early bookings are advised and will be assigned according to order of request and availability for this very popular week. The Hostal El Anon, a lovely inn created by our host Suzanne Odell in the heart of this Andalucian village of some 5,000 inhabitants has only 11 rooms, a lively bar and a wonderful restaurant. We may also stay at other village locations. Lunch or dinner is provided for all participants at the El Anon and other village restaurants.
